What do you guys tye up for super small midge immitaions? Is it just string and lacker around a hook?

I've fished and tied a good deal of larger midge for lake fishing but have never gotten around to tying the #20 -through #24, which seem to be good producers in the streams I plan on fishing this spring. Thanks for you help! -Ryan

I tie a lot of 20's and 22's. one of my favorites is a black thread body, white thread rib, white z-lon or comparable short wing and a rust colored dubbing head. here is a pic of a mike's midge that is a good midge pattern

One of my favorites to tie and fish is a simple white goose biot body and small dubbed black head.

It is chellenge for tying these little midge. Because there are not much room for errors. I think (IMHO) people tent to over dressing the midge pattern. If you observe the midge from stomach comtents. It's pretty simple. Just few wraps of fine wire to create segments and dub the head for the larva stage. I think the size and fishing style will be more important than actual dressing. For lake fishing, people said " If you did not get bored, you are not fishing slow enough." http://globalflyfisher.com/patterns/buzzer/
BTW, That is a very cool looking emerger Mike.

Good tie Mike. Looks like that is an olive colored body on that one?

This is one of my favorite patterns though this example is a little big...

Ryan,
I second the endorsement of a goose biot nymph. It has been deadly for me at times on the lower Spoke. Olive goose biot with peacock herl thorax and that is it. Simple, and can be very effective. I have tried grey as well but the olive out-produces every time.
