A question for you experienced spey guys. TFO has a conversion kit for the TiCrX 7 and 8 wts. Basically turning a 9 footer into a 11'3" "spey" rod for only $149.

Is this too good to be true?

while useful for shorter spey fishing. an 11'3" spey has limited applications. So in a sense, yes too good to be true. By the same token that would be a sweet rod for smaller rivers with tight banks. Not sure how that individual rod casts, but I know alot of guys who absolutely love their 11'7" forecast spey rods

It's a great deal for someone that wants to try a two handed rod without pluning down hundreds of dollars. It would be a great summer spey rig. Swing flies on the spey or nymph on the single hander depending on what the situation calls for.

I developed that TFO conversion kit primarily for overhead casting to striped bass and great lakes trib steelhead. It is a very short and stout rod for spey fishing, but with the 7-weight TiCrX tips, it is my all-time favorite rod.
Alas, we thought we had built about a two-year supply, but they sold out in three weeks. More are on the way.
Don't forget that TFO has an un-conditional money-back guarantee, so if you buy it and it does not suit you, you can get a full refund.

Thanks Guys.
So Jay, since you obviously understand this rod, the other question is about lining it... I have a TiCrX 8wt with the Rio VersaTip. Do I need another line to work with the 2 hander? Or will I be able to get away with what I've got?

To cast it overhead, you are going to need a heavier line. Anything from a 9 to an 11 should work, but I think you will really like something like the Rio Outbound in a 10 or 11-weight. I will finish my line recommendations for these rods as soon as my saltwater test river ices out.
