I have two brand new grey partridge capes for someone to win. Ran it by Chris a few months back but I don't know what would be fair. I think Chris, IBN, and Jerry should pick the category and decide on the fly to be tied, I'll take the photos and let the mods be the judges. And if any sponsors want to get in for the first contest now would be the time.

Sounds like fun. Why not have each contestant submit multiple flies, that way you don't have to narrow it down to one category, one fly.

Still gathering ideas to make things come together, thinking about two types of flies since I have two capes. The mods (judges) won't see who tied the fly but just a number for each one. Since there would be two categories you would need to tie 8 flies with a definite toe tag on one for ID, three others to send to the judges without them seeing who tied what. I wouldn't post any photos until the contest is done. Shoot me some more ideas.

I haven't heard back from the mods yet Dom, Me thinks they are thinking about the contest and the flies they get to judge for the contest.

Due to lack of interest and some great but limited input I'm putting this on hold for awhile.

As would I as long as the contest is not on Alantic Salmon flies. I just do not have the materials for those.

I was hoping this would materialize as well. Many may have remained silent just awaiting the final ground rules.

I am interested also. Although I am new I believe I have a few patterns that might have a chance.

It's still in the works, nothing to complicated, in fact you might have to come up with an idea.

one of the coolest contests i participated in gave a list of materials and people had to come up with their own pattern. Could be anything, but they could only use the materials on the list.
i'd be interested if you get it off the ground.

I'm thinking D3Smartie's idea is a good one.
Another possibility would be tying patterns to represent the life cycle of a given species chosen by the mods.
For example:
a specific caddis: cased, larva, pupa (emergent/deep), adult, skating/diving (if applicable)
-or-
a specific mayfly (pmd, calibaetis, etc): nymph, emerger, dun, spinner

I am down for some Judging. I like the idea of limited materials. I can't possibly pick a fly, all I use are shock and awe's. I don't know what else exists!

we could do it were we there are four cattogories. dry emerger nymph and streamer. you then choose wich you want to contribute to and make two flys for that catergoery. im very shure i spelled some stuff wrong

Well IBN is our first judge and it is now up to him to talk Jerry and Chris into it. I have a plan put together but need to run it by them first for approval.

I would be in.

How about a size 24 parachute adams competition.

I think categories should be similar to recent swaps. Trout dry/wet, Steelhead Summer/winter etc.

If you want more response, I'd post this over in the main forum. I Rarely visit this part.

Id like to get in on this one. I like riseforms idea: stages of the insects. I also like the limited materials idea. Let me know when this materializes.

I like the limited materials. That gets more into the creativity but keeps the ability to judge quality as well.

You laugh, but I tied a size 22 Royal Wulff just for amusement value once. It caught fish, too!

I don't think this was the smallest one I tied, but it's the handiest photo of it.

Will the mods be the only ones who can view the submitted entries?

I am not experienced in tieing yet, but would love to see what is entered when this is all settled...:)
