I'm wanting a rod that fits in suitcase or carry on for travel. Six piece rods just seems like too many joints for good casting but I thought the same about 4 piece rods too. TFO has a 8wt in the professional series for not too much money that looks interesting.
Anybody have any experience or thoughts?

TFO pros are great sticks. Rod manufacturing has come a long way in regards to the number of ferrules, and its impact on casting. You likely wont notice a difference btwn a 4 and 6 pc rod.

We sell a 7-piece Frequent Flyer at Orvis. It has gone over well with our customers who are looking for a true briefcase rod. It is a nice rod to cast and one of our Frequent Flyer users has taken some large redfish with it during a trip to the Texas Gulf.

Cabelas sells 5 and 7 piece rods. I've never fished them, but a buddy has the 7 piece. He stores it and a reel under his vehicle seat to keep it out of site from thieves. When the fishing urge strikes while he is out driving around, he is always ready to go.
