Does anyone have a review of the Loomis GLX 11' single spey rod? I am thinking about a light summer steelhead rod for the Deschutes, and this rod sounds like it might be the one. Also, if you have a specific line that you used on it, let me know what you think of it.
Thanks,
Larry
This is a great single hand Spey casting rod or ‘Switch’ rod. If you prefer a slower more traditional action with a shorter head line (I do), I really liked fishing that rod with an Outbound 10 floater. If you will be overhead casting the rod more or prefer a little faster action with a mid-spey style line, try the Rio or S.A. Steelhead taper line in a nine weight.

Thanks so much for the comments. I really appreciate hearing from someone that has used the rod. I just wonder if perhaps I should get the 7 wt. instead of the 8wt. for light summer steelheading on the Deschutes? How long of a leader do you use?
Best,
Larry
If that is your primary goal (Summer Steelhead with floating lines), the seven may be more fun for you. The eight is more versatile though... It’s always a compromise isn’t it?
I’m usually using a 10’ or 11’for that type of fishing.

I would agree, If your looking for something soley for summer steel, a 7 wt might be better.

Yeah, the 7 would be perfect and it would also make a great rod for the Santiams and the coastal summer fish as well.
