Body: Scud back cut into strips
Bead: Nickel
Thorax: Opossum dubbing- olive

A friend who study aquatic insect told me that these little green worms are super abundant in the well oxygenate mountain creek, they also drift alone the bottom on the daily basis for switching different feeding ground. I got the idea from a Utah fly tier- Curtis Fry's Bungie Midge. Cut the scud back into strips and tie this simple pattern. The key to wrap the taper body is to keep a tight tension at very beginning to form a neat tail, then gradually loose the tension and increse the thickness. until get the desired shape.

that is cool. I think they might be green rock worms. But a smaller version for the mountain streams.

That is a sweet fly. I'll tie some up then look for the mountain creek (I live on the dry side). I don't know about it working on Crab... but looking cool is half the battle.

After working on a study in the Yakima river pumping fish stomachs, those "little green worms" are probably one of the most commonly eaten insects by the resident rainbow trout. This little caddis, ranging from about a size 10 to a size 20 can be found all over Washington rivers. The genus is Hydropsyche (Order: Trichoptera, Family: Hydropsychidae), and it comes in two colors, green, and almost a purplish tan. Its free living, and it builds little nets (its also known as a "netspinner") to catch its food. Anyways, just thought I would share what I know. That pattern will work great, fish it as a dropper of the back of a stimulator in the summer and you should be golden. Also, do a web search on hydropsyche and tons of good pictures and info will come up.

it's funny cause i was looking at this pattern thinking that it looks a lot like a bungie midge that this guy curtis fry that i know showed me and low and behold he is the one that showed you this pattern. curtis is a pretty good tier, he has shown me some good looking patterns that i haven't caught shit on.
