I'm demoing a Loop Opti right now and am having a hell of time matching a line to it. Its a 12 ft 7wt. Poppy? anyone?:D

Is there a rule of thumb on these trout speys?.. like shorter heads?

I have the same question for the tfo 6 wt 12 1/2 foot.

I have a windcutter 6/7/8 on rihgt now. Does any one like any other line better, this could be the right line and I just haven't put my time in yet....

You should be able to tell by feel. And the lines I've tried thus far do not match... both were windcutters, maybe a mid-spey would make a difference?

DJ that 6/7/8 cutter on your TFO should be fine. Both TallFLyGuy and I used that setup last year with success. Although I did not like how it turned over big flies, it can be done. I also just recently tried an Airflo Delta 6/7 and it worked as well. I think the Delta has 20 or so more grains on the cutter.

The Airflow Delta 6/7 ROCKS on that rod . The Rio 5/6 Windcutter is also a good match .

The Windcutter 6/7/8 or any of the other short belly (SA Short Spey, Delta Spey) 6/7 would work perfectly on the Loop. The Windcutter 5/6 would be a good choice on the TFO, although if you slow down, the windcutter 6/7/8 would work on the TFO, although it overloads the rod a bit and makes its slower action even slower. I limited my response to short belly lines because you appear to want info on the short belly rather than the longer belly lines.

Which WC's have you tried and what didn't you like about them, to heavy, to light? I know nothing about the Loop Opti but we can probably get close with some more info. Have you thought of a skagit setup?

As far as the 12'6"-6wt TFO, I agree with a Delta 6/7 or WC 6/7/8. I think the Delta turns over bigger flies a bit better.

Skawla,

Those rods are built more towards the 'underhand' stroke. Use A LOT of bottom hand using the top hand as a pivot point. Try some scando heads if you can your hands on some demos. Especially if you are using the rod for trout.

William, Poppy.... thanks again. The Windcutter 6/7/8/ just doesn't want to load, I'd tried the matching skagit with sloppy results. It very well could be me. I'll call you tomarrow Poppy.

I can 'second' that comment (have the rod). The one other thing that usually doesn't get into the mix with these short rods is the use of a 'regular' single hander line. Many of them (RIO Grande as an example) are the 'cat's meow' on a "shorter" switch rods. Better yet, more available and less (generally) less expensive.

Alright Fred, come clean brother. I was talking with Meiz at this house last December and he says no one really knows how many rods you have in the arsenal. How many is it? :beer2: Coach
