For anyone using the red tubes that come with WD-40 or canned air I found the perfect mandrel is a Dritz Sail sewing needle found at the local Jo-Ann fabrics store.

You can purchase a complete set of mandrells and holder from HMH for about $20.00 or $75.00 for the top-of-the-line version. I've used the HMH tube holder since co-writing "Tube Flies" with Mark Mandell. It really does the job and is close to indestructable. The book also lists a lot of economical tubes that will outlast Q-tips hands down and are much easier to obtain in volume than the red tubes on WD-40 cannisters. In addition, there are excellent tubes available in at least three diameters and several colors that come in 4-inch lengths and can be cut into four 1-inch lengths to make 4 saltwater tube flies.
Good Tying,

Les,
Were you a contributor to Mark's second book on tube flies?
