The winner in the women's division of the major speycasting competition at the Spey-O-Rama in San Francisco was Kateri Clay.

The real news is that she used a bamboo spey rod made by her dad, Bob Clay, of Kispiox B.C.

She averaged over 90' under tough conditions - casting both right and left handed while wading deep, changing directions and with a barrier 33' behind.

That was some excellent casting by Kateri. Here's a pic of her casting - and the second photo is Kateri, and her dad, Bob Clay.

I believe that they will be at the Sandy River Spey Clave the beginning of May.

Wow, casting a cane spey rod, drinking a sierra nevada, she must be turning down marrige proposals left and right.

Chad - Kateri was casting a 15' rod with a 85' Carron line. Don't forget about the waist-deep water!

Sloan - I guess you know what kind of beer to bring to the Sandy :D :D

Wow, look at her extend and get all that line out of the water. Look at the "V" loop, no "D" about it. Did the cast in the picture launch?

Given the young ladies 'size' if the water in the casting pond were much deeper they'd have to issue her a box to stand on!
