Hi folks,
Does anyone have the recipe for Lash's raccoon fly, apparently an effective imitation for hatching midges??
Thanks,
Steve

Phil Rowley's book, Fly Patterns for Still Waters, does a great job of demonstrating how to tie this pattern. If you can't find a copy of it pm me and I can talk you through it. It is a great pattern when the fish key in on emerging chironomids.
The Q&D answer is:
Tail: barred teal or pintail
Butt: a few wraps of white ostrich
Body: dubbed fur or yarn in black (but color should match the hatch I suppose)
Back: deer hair pulled forward and tied down at eye of hook with a little stub of hair left jutting upward ala Elk Hair Caddis.
I believe the pattern is listed on Rowley's website, but I could be wrong.
It's a fairly simple tie. I've tied a few this past winter that have yet to get wet, but at the moment I think they might be improved a bit.
This pattern is somewhat similar to the Pink Lady Nymph as listed in IEFC pattern book about 10 years ago. The PLN is a killer at times.

Thanks for the info, BFK. I just bought some size 22 hooks and will jump into production mode.
