Remember, in Oregon, if you want to try a rod out, and go out on the water without a hook and just a piece of yarn on, you are fishing and need a fishing license. I have talked to dfg extensively about this and they dont care that it is impossible to take a fish.:beathead: I asked because I was going to oregon and wanted to teach a cousin to fly cast (was going to cast without a fly, and wanted to see if it was legal, it is legal in California, if you dont have a hook and it is impossible to catch a fish you are not "fishing). Morale of the story, get a oregon license if you are going to be trying rods! (or, morale of the story, give what to Ceasar what is Ceasars)

that's right, and licenced Oregon residents have been deputized to issue citations for illegals. We will be out in force, issuing citations, and collecting appropriate fines and fees on a "cash - now" basis

Thanks for the heads up.
Although it would be a lot of egg on the face of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife if they did issue citations to people at the clave trying out rods. I mean with all the violations occuring on a Saturday they are going to deliberately bother a bunch of people NOT fishing. It would make great news and probably cost someone their job.

I can see the Judge's Chambers in my 'mind's eye:' "Courts temporarily adjourned. .... Pause .....Tell me again 'Officer' why you issued 700 citations to Citizens for practice casting with a bit of yarn on the end of a leader at an open to the public event; largest of it's kind I might add? Each and every one has asked for a court date to contest the charge ... that should take up about three months of our calendar."

Here is where we all get to fill in the answer: "Well your Honor .... "

Actually some of the best 'long rod runs' in the lower Sandy river are just above/below Oxbow park. I actually caught two on Sunday morning just above the boat ramp ("Last Chance") a couple of years ago. Given the 'Clave's a couple of weeks earlier this year .... even a better chance??:beer2:

Fishing licenses available at the Fred Meyer you drive past on the way there?
