What's the Tiemco/Mustad equivalent?
I want to tie a some of Trina's Bubbleback Emergers but don't want to send away from MFC hooks.

I agree with riseform, looks like the TMC 2487, 2457 or any other scud, caddis type hook. I know that Mustad, Dai Riki and Tiemco all make a similar model.

that's what i was thinking.
is there a huge difference between using a heavy or light wire hook? is it common just to use heavy for nymphs, light for dries/emergers? am i thinking too much into this? the 57 is heavy and 87 is light. which one?

You've got it right. Use the heavier hook if you want it to sink, and the lighter if you want it to stay on the surface. I wouldn't buy the Dai Riki's though. I've had more of those bend out than I can count. They are cheap for a reason.

I remember watching Gary Lafontaine in a video being adamant about his preference of the lighter "dry fly" hook for his nymphs, claiming he got better hook ups with them. Since you're tying the emerger anyway, I'd go with the lighter one.

It depends on what you want in a hook. Light tippets = light wire hooks. Heavy tippets=heavy wire hook. A light wire hook will penetrate easier with a lighter hook set.
