Craft store thread

Can I use craft store thread to tie with?
I don't need waxed. I also don't want to drive a million miles to go to a fly shop.
Will it rot faster or stink?

Its way too thick unless you are tying up lead head jigs for pike or bass. Drive a billion miles and get $.85 fly tying thread and you will be much happier.

I only use it when I want a thick head that I am going to epoxy over. Usualy salt water flies.

In local sewing/craft stores, I've noticed tempting displays of shiny threads in many colors. They're usually of rayon. Has anyone tried these for fly tying?
