Ok. So I was reading a thread about making a list of things you need for fly tying before you go to the local fly shop. This is nothing new to me as I do this regularly, but that does not keep me from those impulsive buys. While walking around looking at things, I get an idea for a new fly and buy some new material only to find when I get home, I already bought the same material the last time I was at the shop so now I got two of the same thing and same color.:beathead: Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Often enough to call it a "Senior Moment". :)

Shit I don't even call it a Senior Moment. I'm 28 and do this all the time. I get excited when I look through the multiple boxes at Kaufmann's and then buy everything I need for that pattern only to find out I have 3/4 of that stuff already.
My problem is that my fly tying organization is equal to choas. So most the time I can't find what I need so then I go and buy it, only to find out that I replaced that material 3 times before. Ha Ha Ha!!
I figure this, money spent on fly fishing/fly tying is less money I have to spend on beer and women!!!!!

I can't spell either. Change that to "mind" from "mine". Maybe it was before my morning coffee when I wrote that thread. Oh well, you knew what I meant

Yup, happens to me. I'm not sure if it's better or worse than thinking I have something and getting home and not having it. I think it happens to all fly tiers - tons of tying stuff to buy!

Yes this has happened to me more than once, and it will happen again.

and again and again.... If I could have all the money back I've spent on dupe materials.....

So what's the problem? Now you have enough material to tie some backup flies for when the trees or the whatever's claim your fly. Afterall, it's money well spent......

Cheese and Crackers, that happens to me all the freaking time. I swear I should make a list and cross stuff off of it when I buy it.
My other problem is that I'll buy something that I really need, and it will get home, and somehow it will get lost between my pants and my tying box.

No big deal. You will use it at some point. I did the same thing and bought $100 brooks brothers pants that I already had in my closet. Now, I need to keep my waist the same size for the next few years!
