Drift boat question

I am looking at buying a used drift boat, my experience in the past has been primarily with Aluminum boats. I am not the greatest rower and will fish some pretty skinny water so banging rocks is common place, is AL the way to go ? Should I be wary of FG and Wood ?

if you mean define skinny as low clear rivers with rapids like the sol duc. I would get a raft or cataraft.
