The pinks are in there in what appeared to be a couple of schools of 50-70. The 2 schools circled the hatchery area as the tide moved in. most of the fishermen there using gear and locking in their spots around the buoys.
I casted for an hour with one other fly-fisher on the 2nd hour of the incoming. The fish circled in & out of range and would come closer on every swing. problem was the fishermen were showing up in waves as well.
Anticipating the hardware frenzy, I left at about mid tide with only a couple of open spots for anglers left.
I noticed most of the fishermen were waiting up on the beach and I suspect it was going to get crazy as soon as the fish were in range they would all start flinging lines in all directions:eek:
Fish looked to be in the 18" to 26" range.
Looked like the drill was a casting frenzy as the fish circled close, then everyone would stop & wait till they circled close again. Did'nt seem like much fun to me, but "to each his own".
Time to explore and find the fish as they are showing up now.
Good luck!

i was out there yesterday, and fished a bit from a boat, saw a few jumpers, but not much in the way of schools of fish. no hook ups. it was my first time fishing hood canal from a boat, it was nice not being in the crowd, but a little tougher trying to set up a proper drift, i am pretty green at this. can't wait to see more fish in there.

You'd better check the regs before you fish and crab...the area is not open to salmon north of Ayock Point (just north of the Hamma Hamma) and crabbing is closed Sunday. There is a small boat basin in Quil Bay with a few finger piers, but no other docks that I know of open to the public where you might have a chance. Driving south you'll find a few opportunities. In the Quil area, SRC is about it for a fish you can target.
