Hi there,
I am new to fishing the Salt, but will find myself up in Hansville this weekend and wonder what the fishing is like from the beach in that area. I am thinking of taking my new Spey rod and stripping some clousers from the beach near the Point no Point lighthouse. Is that stupid or worth while? What else might I look for to help guide my casting and presentation? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Pieter

Fishing's pretty good right now out there. Just cast out and strip in like normal saltwater stuff. I have been using pink. There is usually a good bite early in the morning (around six I think). I like to try to fish in rips if possible. Definately worth your time. It isn't as hot as the first week or so when it started, but I caught 3 fish this morning, so I can't complain. Good luck!

I fished it on Friday evening and then again last night. On Friday I lost one (drag too tight and it snapped off my clouser) and landed one, a 21" hatchery coho. Last night, landed a 24.5" hatchery coho. All on a chartreuse/white clouser. Then I did a nice whip-cast and there goes my lucky fly. These are my first salmon on a fly rod, what a rush!
When I left around 8:30 pm last night the fisheries lady said 46 silvers caught so far that day.

tweston- nice job on the first salmon! How is the fishing in the evening? what would you guess is the average fish to rod ratio?

Thanks! It's been good for me the two times I've gone, but I haven't seen a lot of hookups, though. On Monday night the beach was pretty crowded and I only saw one other guy with one on and my wife said she saw one more besides that guy. I haven't been out there that long though, maybe an hour and a half both times. Almost everyone I've talked to says it's better in the morning.
Fishing at PNP was good this morning. I am a beginner and I caught and released two small coho, kept two hatchery coho, and had two throw the hook, one nearly at my feet. A light tailwind helped with casting...

TQ - Did they seem to favor pink or green patterns? I have a selection of green and pink clousers.

Fish PNP if you don't mind sharing some beach reelestate. I fished it this morning with a buddy for a few hours. Nothing showed interest in the clouser show, so I switch to a popper. They like those I found out as it took a 5lb blackmouth and 5lb coho (both wild) and lost another. I also had several chases including some that rose to the fly within 20 feet of my rod tip. My buddy also got into a few silvers with poppers as well. Try it. You'll like it.
The clouser that worked for me was a pale pink and white, though I did not try any others as it attracted coho right off the bat. In contrast to Brian's experience, I got no interest at all in my popper (identical colors to the clouser). Curious how things can change from day to day. Moreover, the crowd was not bad yesterday. It was my first time there so I have no basis for comparison, but it was less crowded than I had anticipated.
