I showed a friend a fly pattern that i have started tying and he told me that it looked like a fly pattern called a grub. It might be an old atlantic salmon fly pattern, but i don't know. Does any one know where i could find info or a picture of this fly? Perhaps one of you have even tied it. Thanks!

Well there's a grub fly detailed in most atlantic salmon fly tying books. It basically uses a hackle of golden pheasant tippet and is the foundation of the sauk river grub. then there's the Usk Grub. Kinda like an irish shrimp if I recall correctly. What does yours look like

The Usk Grub is a traditional Welsh salmon fly and is featured in the Dec Hogan book, "Passion for Steelhead," as well as most Atlantic salmon fly pattern books. I have caught my last three steelhead on the Usk Grub, including two B-runs on two successive casts on the Clearwater.

A classic tippet grub.
Wool yarn body
GP tippet
Tinsel optional
Using this basic design as a jumping off point there are all kinds of places you can go with this fly.
