Hey all--

I'm trying to decide on a line setup for my 11'6'' forecast switch rod (6/7). right now I'm leaning toward running line attached to either a vision shooting head (for intermediate or floating) or a skagit shooting head between 350 and 500 grains (depending on the fishing).

Any advice? To clarify, I'm thinking of getting both so I can interchange the two on a single spool.

thanks!

Jon

get both. theyll both serve different purposes, you may even find yourself nymphing with full on bobber/shot with the skagit head, but that vision head throws incredible with a 10ft poly of various sink rates in front of it for shwingin. im throwing the 30lb airflow ridge runner behind it, VERY few tangles, shoots incredibly well.

Beulah Elixir 335gr 6/7 line.

All that, and a side of fries.

Been huckin' that around on my BIIx 11' 7 and diggin' every stroke.

Gimme a call jonny, I'm buying a ticket to the outside and you are takin' me fishing.

fyi- the elixir and vision are pretty much the same line, one is just a head version and the other a one piece line. they both make those shorter switch and spey rods throw with no effort.

The Airflo 40+ 8wt should also work well on that rod.

I have a Airflo Delta 6/7 on it right now and like it. I use it mostly for swinging, though, and it is pretty tiring to single arm that much rod and line, but I have done it for a hour or so at a time.

Not to change topics, BUT... I thought the Batson Switch rods were all 10'8"?

they are 10'8". I think he's talking about the 6/7 spey blank which I really don't think is a switch rod. you can singlehand it, but its a bit awkward.

I'm talking about the forecast 6/7 blank, which is 11'6". With an eight weight versi-tip line on it you can single hand it 90' all day long, as long as you've got room to throw. With a 500 gr. skagit head and 10' of t-14 you can double-hand it all day. And with a vision 400 gr. head you can double-hand it all week.

Yeah, the 6/7 11'6" spey blank. Batson has a line of true switch blanks and that's what I was looking at.
