Was in the bay area last weekend and decided to explore some new water. Fished the tailwater with ultra low flows, 46 CFS. Ended up with several hits and a several trout to hand. Not bad for fishing two hours. It was 70 degrees and gorgeous.

Great report. I love fishing new waters. You could have asked the board for best spots to fish Putah Creek. Many of us "locals" are willing to share some secret spots and advice with visitors. I know I received great advice from Gary Thompson and others when I visited Washington state waters this past summer.

On Putah Creek, there are many turnouts just downstream from the bridge, which lead to the best fishing spots on the river. The area below the bridge is bigger water and produces almost exclusively planters. Putah Creek is loaded with large wild rainbows, browns, and unfortunately zebra snails. If you're ever in the area again, give a holler on the board and I'll hook you up with what I know.

Thanks Steve, I met several fly fisherman on the water and they helped me feel welcome and at home in your California waters. A couple of younger guys gave me a fly and had noticed me on Bono's Putah Creek site. I liked the personalized license plate and snapped a shot to remember my fishing travels to Yolo County. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice everyone was in CA, conversely, I went fishing on Tuesday here in WA and my fishing buddy almost got into a fist fight with a gear chucker who was claiming his right to fish a run and said my buddies fly was coming too close to him.

I was able to fish under and around the bridge and got my hookups, all hatchery Bows. Small but good to try something new...

I used to fish there alot, just below #3 where you took the pic. A big pool below a steep riffle there. Good sized fish in Putah. Those pics take me back! Thanks!
