I have to make this brief because I'm on a PDA but I had a great time with th fam. at my parents house in palm desert Ca.
I am currently in Roseburg Or. Tomorrow I'll fish the Umpqua (sp) No. fork, but today I fished the Sacramento river. On the 20th cast, BOOM. Steelhead! They aren't as big as one ones at home but they must take the same aerial classes. :)
It was pissing in the Siskyou's (sp) and through Grants pass so hopefully the river won't be blown tomorrow.
SteelieD (here on WFF) also knows of a place I stopped at called The Fly Shop. Nice folks. 50ft. off I-5, but harder then hell to get back to.
I'll give a further report on the NF Umpqua tomorrow night with pics.
2 more things... I might not get to it till Wed. as I have to drive all day tomorrow, after fishing and 2nd ly I drove by Shasta lake today, is it supposed to be that low? Holy crap, it just looks wrong!
Buck.

Update

Back home now, now all I have to do is find that damn cord that connects everything. Seems like there is either a cord, a disk or both, for everything now.
I fished a Little in Or. but the rivers where either high or blown. I did stop in some really nice towns in Or. In WA. I didn't really stop because I knew if I did that would be time added to the traffic build up in the Tac./Sea area. So I hot footed it and didn't stop once for gas or traffic. Over all it was a great time driving back, still better than dealing with the airports.

Philster, is that the one with the taco bell? Because if it that is a great area for fishing. I caught the fish south of the Fly shop about 5 miles. It was sure different looking at palm trees while fishing.

OK Pics are up
1. My dad and My buddy's kid Jake, Two great golfers. This is at Rancho Laquinta.
2. Note the turkey is really not a Turkey, it's a pineapple with a squash neck and face, and the tail is made of asparagus. My moms creation....Don't worry we had 8 people over for Thanksgiving and had a huge dinner. Then we watched the Huskies loose and drowned our sorrows in turkey sandwiches.
3. My toes and the pool at my parents place.
4. The only fish caught
5 the Sacramento
6. This is two cars I saw on El Paseo, the shopping district in Palm Desert, Ca. the closest is an Austin Martin, the other is a Masarati!!
7. Lake Shasta.....It's 117' feet below what it's supposed to be. Lack of rain
8. I can't remember the name of this river but Mt. Shasta is in the background. It's hard to see because the sky and the snow turned out white.

The Fly Shop aka "Calmann's" has been an institution for decades. I've drained more quarts of "processed" liquid at that gas station up at the intersection than you can imagine...

Buck,

Glad you got a fish!

You gotta get off at the exit before the Fly Shop, but you wouldn't know it w/o being there before! Glad you found it!

Shasta IS often that low. Weird lookin', huh?

Good luck in OR!

On the single.....couldn't get the double in my duffle bag. Everything including my rod (single) fits in this old Eddie Bauer bag, it's perfect. :thumb:

I don't know if you have any place you'd like to put a sticker from The Fly Shop, but if you do want it, it's yours. I'll give it to you.....Friday. ;)

Nice pics, congrats on your trip, how'd the NF fishing go?

Those guys at The Fly Shop rock, they took my wife and I a few years ago and taught us how to fish the Lower Sac in short order so when we visit the son in SF we can fish it on our own now with great success. Learning that trout fishery on one's own can be tough. It's an odd one for sure.
