so i was swinging flies today on the snoqualmie and ran into the free spey casting class put on by creekside angling. and of course they had to have the sage z-axis i want. and of course it felt PERFECT!!!

so now i want one really bad, but before i drop that kind of money i want to know of any other switchrods that would be close to the same feel.

looking for 11' 6wt through 12' 6/7wt.

i knew i shouldnt have tryd spey casting, man it was ALOT easier then i thought it would be. my wrist can only handle about 1 hour of single hand casting and that switch rod was wonderful to cast. didnt have the hardly use my hurt wirst and was casting an easy 30ft farther then i can with my sinlge hand. and that was after only a couple minutes of spey casting for the first time.

Yes switch rods are great fun. I have tried the Z axis and they are nice. I also have a Beulah 7/8 that is a great rod. However I built up a Meiser system 8 and must say it is a GREAT rod. If I was unfortunate enough to only have one rod to fish ( oh the thought is horrible!@) this would be the one. Floating lines, scandi heads skagit heads w/tips no problem. My advice would be to try out as many rod/line combinations as you can. The Sages are nice for sure but there are definatly some other options at some different pricepoints with great performance out there. Spend a little time trying things out before forking out the money and you will be happier in the long run. You think your hooked with switched rods, nahhh your just nibbling wait til you try a rod 12'6" + THEN you will be HOOKED!:thumb: Good luck with your choice. Kevin

yea thats what im scared of. im really toying with getting a 13ft 7wt like my original plan was. but im gonna stay with a switch rod or smaller rod so i can stay with my 8wt reel i have now.

and i had a beulah single hand rod i had tied up this year and love it, and having a beulah switch i think would a great idea.

Loomis has a couple single hand spey rods in their native run GLX series.

They have an 11' 7 weight which is sweet and an 11' 8 weight that i havent tried but have heard good things about. Same price point as the Z-axis
