Well, I closed the season this weekend without much fanfare - or birds. I took my older Llewellin setter to hunt the basin this weekend for a last shot at quail. We hunted areas around Soap Lake, such as the Gloyd Seeps WA, an area near Rocky Ford, and an area between Ancient Lakes and Quincy - all places where I have taken birds earlier in the season. Although Buddy got birdy a few times we didn't see a single bird. A hunter I ran into at Gloyd told me he got a planted rooster up near Quincy. The snow was fairly deep in many of the places I hunted. The only birds I saw were a huge covey of quail behind the cyclone fence at Notaras Lodge, where I stayed. It drove my dog nuts. Every time I would take him out to pee he would go on point and forget about the task at hand.

The last rooster on the last day as the sun was setting.
