Just received my Whiting spey cape two days ago, great looking product on par with blue eared, a lot less cost.

Hey Daryle,
I've been thinking of picking up a cape or two of the Whiting spey hackle too. Do you have to use multiple feathers to get the same look of one BEP? I think that I'll have to pick one up just to test it out because the price looks too good to pass up.

Daryle, would you mind posting some pics of the flies you tie with that spey hackle?

Steve and Will,

Haven't tied with it yet, I'll try to post a photo tomorrow showing a single feather.

I looked at those at Swede's in Spokane, but at $45.00 couldn't pull the trigger. Do they sell half capes?

$45.00 for a Silver Grade (the top grade for them) Whiting Spey Neck sounds way to high to me, especially since Whiting has a suggested retail price of $30.00 for them. I know at least two shops that have some and they are selling them for a lot less than $45.00. Give Ron at All About the Fly (a site sponsor) in Monroe, or Dave at Waters West in Port Angeles a call or a visit. They have them for Whiting's suggested retail.

Got it from the fly shop in Welches Oregon for $30 with no sales tax, blue eared pheasant is about 160 clams for a skin, if fly shop Kristin lets me know what colors they carry I would make the trip down to Monroe.

Daryle -- We've run low (out!) of the Whitings Spey Hackles, but, I was just getting ready to get more in stock. Colors I'm re-ordering are: Salmon, Heron Gray, Pink, Purple, Silver Doctor Blue, Claret and Burnt Orange. Price is suggested retail ($30.)

Let me know if there's a different color you want, i can add it on to the order.

Kristin,

Any chance you could get 2 silver or bronze necks in yellow? If yellow is not an option Whiting offers, white would do and I'll dye them. I want them for Glasso Sol Duc Spey.

By the way, I'll be stopping in on Monday to get the 9 wt XLT Ron ordered for me.

$50.00 for a Whiting Spey Neck that has a suggested retail (list price) from Whiting of $30.00 for a Silver Grade (the top grade) or $20.00 for the Bronze Grade. Maybe he ought to go into the oil business. Whiting may have increased the price by $5.00 for this year, but that still has the list price well below $50.00 (um, I'm sorry, I meant $49.95, as if 5 cents makes any real difference).

Got it today from your hubby, great shop, first time there. If all shops were like this it would be a picture perfect world.

I've been using dyed pheasant alot lately . Even after the dying process , the natural irridescence still shines through . Really makes awesome collars and body hackles .

At $3.75 for a generous patch of dyed Ringneck Pheasant rump , it's hard to beat . The Golden Pheasant skins that are dyed come in at $9.95 , another good deal !! Give Poppy (Red Shed) a call .:thumb:
