I am trying to get my set dialied in on my Koffler 16. I feel like my oars are to long. Are there any rules of thumb to size and helmsman seat position?

There are many oar length and oar position formulas, but I would say just call Koffler and ask. They are very helpfull. You'll need to know which model 16 foot boat you have.

I have the 14" Koffler Rocky Mountain Trout boat - the widest model ,54 inch inch bottom width, 80 inch beam width, 23 1/2 inch height at the oar locks and I use the 8 1/2 foot oars that they recommended.

Jim (at Lavro, in Monroe) (and his wife I might add), know a ton about oars. While they sell them too, I'd bet you could get good advise with a call.
You will need to know the distance from oarlock to oarlock when you call someone. That's the primary consideration.
