I'm looking into buying a watermaster kodiak, mostly for stillwater fishing on larger lakes in northern Minnesota. They look like excellent boats for river trips, but having never rowed one, I have no idea how much ground you can cover in stillwater situations. Anyone have any experiences to share? Is the oar upgrade worth it in terms of speed/efficiency? I do have a trolling motor but would rather not rely on it.

If you really want to cover a lot of water you might as well just get the standard oars and an electric motor mount. I mostly use my WM on moving water and rarely use the oars (I have the standard set). They do what I need them to. I think more than anything, the upgraded oars are more durable than anything else. On still water (small lakes) I may not even touch the oars- mostly just kick with fins.

Getting the Kodiak over the smaller Grizzly is where you will find the most improvement. The oar upgrade I'd suggest regardless.
