Any of the good neuvo or classic steelhead patterns work on streams of British Columbia -- historically. As far as steelhead go, you should bring your pockets full of shamrocks. A test fishery on the Skeena River in August 2007 produced no steelhead. I'm not sure about the chinook (kings).

Stevie , you won`t likely find any steelhead in the Kalum in August , as that river gets it`s steelhead run in the spring . However , if you go to the other side of town in Terrace , you`ll find the beautiful Copper River, which will have steelhead in it , as well as other species .

Your timing for the species you`d like to target is a bit off . The Kings {we call them Springs in Canada] will be just about done . There will be fish around , but they won`t be in prime shape .August is a bit early for the best Steelhead fishing , but again , there will be fish around .

The Kitimat should be full of Chum , and have some dark Springs ,as well as Pinks , and maybe some Coho .

In the Skeena proper , as well as most of its tribs , August can be great for Coho ,Sockeye , Pinks , and late Chum and Springs . As well as Steelhead .

You should`nt have any trouble finding fish ,but targeting specific species is always about the timing .

I can`t wait to get back up there . I`ll be up for 3 weeks towards the end of Sept.

Good Luck !

Stevie , now that`s a tough question to answer , as the fishing can be great at any time . I`ve been going up there for the past 5 years . Earliest was June for Springs and Chum . Latest was Novmber for Steelhead. The fishng has ranged from spectacular , to pretty good .

If you go to Noel Gyger`s site , and subscribe , he`ll email you a fishing report every Sunday . He`s a guide based out of Terrace , and knows the fishing far better than I do . You can also peruse his past fishing reports ,so that you can get an idea of what to expect during your chosen time slot .

Do a search for www.noelgyger.ca.
