Hello,

I have a water skeeter fish guide toon. I would like to know if anyone has every put on a gas motor on their toon and what do they recommend. Also, do I need a long shaft or short shaft. Here is some pictures of what I have so far and I am waiting for my rear piece to come back to me.

I want to eventually get a fish finder and mount it.

Any ideas and pictures so I can see what you mean would be great!

Why not just go with an electric motor, it would be a lot less weight and much safer.

Watch this youtube video. It's got a 8hp engine on it. It can be done but the big question is: Why? It does seem like an electric with a battery would be quite a bit less weight.

Good lord, a gas motor and fish finder on a 'toon? Sounds like you just need a regular boat.

Okay guys here is the scoop. I had a trolling motor on this. I had an emergency and I had to get out of the water quick. The trolling motor then wouldn't work. I checked the battery and it was fine. It turns out that the trolling motor got all weeded up. I had to get towed from someone else after trying to row my way in and then rush to the emergency. I was very tired. I wanted to get a boat but my better half does not want me to get a boat for another couple of years and since I had already owned this toon, I will modify it so that I can use it the way I want to use it.

Thanks for the video clip that was awesome.

Gas motors could be dangerous on a toon. So could cars and everything else in the world. It's how you use it. I am looking at motors between the 2.5 -5hp range no bigger.

I am also looking for pictures of custom jobs done to toons. Maybe something will spark an interest for another mod.

All pictures are welcome.

If you had an issue with an electric motor getting weeded up what do you think would happen to a gas motor. If anything they are more susecptible to getting weeds wrapped around the shaft than an electric and an electric is a heck of a lot easier to just lift up and clear it.

Sorry you had to rush off the lake for an emergency and am certain that was not a fun day. But I don't think a gas motor is the answer. Bottom line is that a gas engine is way more problem prone than an electric. IMHO.

Dave

I’m with you, I just sold my 20’ center console with a 125 hp and trailed it 300 miles round trip to fish Cap Cod each trip cost me over 150.00 for gas.
Well back to your question about a gas engine I am planing to buy a 2.5 hp that weighs less than my battery and 40 lbs. thrust electric I saved my good GPS/fishfinder from my boat and mounted it on my toon.
I must really look silly with all this on my toon but the name of the game is to catch fish and have fun right?
Now my fishing costs me about $9.00 for gasing up the car and boat because I'm close to a lot of small lakes stocked with trout .
