Renzetti Traveler - Pelican 1060 Micro Case

Got a Pelican 1060 the other day when ordering a 1020 for a new point & shoot camera I'm getting. Found it to be perfectly sized for a Renzetti Traveler used with the pedistal, so that you don't even need to remove it for tying. (pedistal fits tight in the box width) The box opened then becomes a mini tying station. Plenty of room for tools, padded on both top / bottom. If you're looking to tighten up your travel toolkit, it's something to consider.

Pelican is pretty proud ($) of their cases given they are built well to include being waterproof, but you can search around for decent prices online. Mine was $16.25 plus shipping, picked up from cases4less.com.

If you do get one for this application, you should probably stay away from the clear top option. Although it's nice to be able to look through without opening the box, you loose the padding on the lid.

K, so I went and bought this case for my Traveler, it's just the right size. The next thing seems to be how to secure the base and parts to the inside of the case so nothing moves around, or what's the point of having a hard case for your vise? My first inclination is to drill holes and rivet bungee straps in to hold the base and the parts into place, but then the case is not waterproof. How did you secure the parts to the box without sacrificing the integrity of the box? The base at the minimum needs to be secured so you can leave it in the box to tie, and then leave the box to catch tying droppings.

I may figure this out at work on my lunch hour, but if you've already figured it out, please share. I hate to engineer things already engineered.

I've got the same Pelican box for taking my cell phone, GPS, etc with me when I wade or float. Don't know if I would bother for my vice, especially since I picked up a Danvise recently that I'll take with I head out to Montana and on longer trips. Still a good idea though! The Danvise seems pretty good, even though it's mostly plastic and will be lighter to carry around than my Regal vice and base that I have.

I've bought a few different cases recently to try and get my fly tying crap organized, as futile as that is! If I ever do, maybe I'll take some pictures of how things turn out.

I should write a few gear reviews on some of the things that I've bought over the past months too.

Thanks for passing along the info! :beer1:

Here's my 1060. You can see I went for the more snappy red color. Added a piece of wavy foam inside to pad everything when it's collapsed, as you can see it's also a good place to stick finished flies. Magnetic tray, not shown in pic, is an Altoids lid flipped over with magnets glued to the bottom. Great for keeping track of hooks. Groovy little setup.:thumb:
