Got in the water about 7:30 am and started casting a olive bugger with gold bead head, slight flashyboo tail. Took about 10min before I hooked one up. No wind really cold however. Caught a total of 4 in about two hours. Saw many people trolling spinners around me also catching fish. Pulled my pontoon out aobut 9:30 am picked up some power bait trash and old line from all around the boat launch made me feel a little better.

Were you on a sinling line? Just a longish leader? Or...?

I was thinking of taking the tube or canoe out there this week just for something to do. Never got around to it though. Perhaps there will still be a few stockers in there next week. Perhaps the weather will be better also.

Thanks for the report.

I was using a sinking line with a 7.5 long leader. I would stick to a tube or boat there was a guy out there with his girlfriend and a dog in a canoe having a hell of a time. I was waiting for them to tip over but it never happened. I think if they went over the guy would have had to make a choice that you never want to make dog or girlfriend. Who do I save?

Thanks for the report and for picking up trash around the lake. When I went out on opening day, I fished 5 beer cans along with some other crap out of the water.

Also, a little report of my own, I went down there and fished Type II full sink, 9 foot leader, and also used a BH olive wb and caught 14 fish in an hour and a half. It seemed like one or two long, steady strips, then pause for longer than usual was the way to go. Often the fish would hit the bug during the long pause. Perhaps these stockers are a bit pampered therefore weak off the line and need some time to run down their "prey." I also got bites when I just had my bug suspended next to the boat while I was doing things like untangling my buddies line or just plain ol' not paying attention. One fish damn near did a flying leap into my boat! He was about a foot off the bow. These stocker trout are dumb. :hmmm:

Years ago, I worked at Diehl Ford, I used to go on test drives to Padden Lake to check on the bikini hatch, I miss being young.

Ahh.... the bikini hatch.... brought on by long cold winters so when the 'scorching' 65 degree sun comes out in June the hatch is overwhelmingly thick. I find wearing dark shaded sun glasses will help you spot the hatch even better.

I've been fishing Padden the past few days with good results although I've missed about 75% of the strikes,I dont get it.Watched an eagle do battle with 4 seagulls for a nice little fish, also seen an eagle doing air to air combat with a big osprey. They came so close I could hear the whoosh from thier wings as they ripped by overhead.Split my fishing with Olive buggers and little emergers with both producing. Also been trying Lake Whatcom for smallies with no success, usaully I get blown off target in my kayak as the winds a killer up there at times.

Bill, I had the same problem. These new stockers seem to be real good at short striking. I had a bunny leech on for a while and got about 10-15 hits all short strike before I changed to a WB and actually started hooking some.

You should, Josh. It's close by and makes for a free dinner. :thumb:

BTW, is that you in your avatar? Is that what I need to be looking for on the lake if I'm lookin' to strike up some conversation with good ol' mister Root?
