My buddy and I fished this lake last night. He's new to the sport but eager to learn. We were the only fly fishermen on the lake. Most others were throwing power bait or trolling some sort of lure. In an hour and a half we had twelve fish to our 'toons. We had a blast throwing dry flies and catching those dumb stocker fish. It was a great introduction to the sport for my friend. He was all grins. Within a few minutes of catching fish I slowly began to feel encircled by other water crafts, and by the time we left, every boat on the lake was bobbing around in that one spot where we had been. I'm going to go up there again this weekend to string a few up for the barbie.

Sweet!!!! I remember that lake well.

Try kicking around the lake perimeter about 50' off shore and throw an orange carey special in between the docks and up towards the shore and strip in. I used to have 50 fish days doing that back in college in the weeks after the opener. The end furthest from the launch was especially good and sometimes I'd just go back and forth along that end. Dang I miss that lake.....

Great work! What kind of flies did you guys throw at em? I might have to hit that up this weekend as well!

BADASS! I love that!

I see it happen to the fly guys ALL THE TIME!

I think it is because fly fishermen are more tuned into the bite and they are better suited to match the hatch.

Any trout will take a fly over powerbait or a lure if you know where to put the fly that is.

I have gear fishing buddies that STILL think gear will catch more fish DESPITE me outfishing them regularly and more frequently than they outfish me.

And BTW guys, I hate to break it to you but the developers in the area had Toad Lake renamed to Emerald Lake to make yuppies more interested in purchasing lots up the hill.

I will call it Toad Lake for life though!
