I see a number of products that you apply to flies just after you finish tying to treat the fly to float.

Is there consensus about the value of these products?

I apply Water Shed after tying dry flies. I think it helps (in terms of not having to treat the fly before the first cast) but I can't say it's a miracle product. All flies eventually become waterlogged and need on stream treatment if you're looking for a high float.

I do know it stinks up the tying room and seems to turn yellow in the bottle once opened.

when tying dries i put floatant on my fingers as i tie. not too much cause if it is really gooped on the fly will sink. this helps. also i use fly dessicant when the fly gets water logged. it also helps. mike w
