Thread: Need your help in naming our new Switch Rod Series!

Lightbulb Need your help in naming our new Switch Rod Series!

Hi all! I was talking to Chris Scoones today about the latest series of "individual masterpieces" crafted by G&L FlyCraft (a sample of which will soon be joining the gear program at WFF)...and realized some of you might be willing to help us select the perfect name for what we feel is a series of darned-near perfect sticks (I guess it's possible that we might be a bit biased, though!).

If you're a fellow double-hand/spey aficionado, you'll definitely want to talk to Chris about getting your hands on the demo arriving next month...but for now we'd love your input on what to call 'em!

So...if you've got a minute and an idea or two, drop by our homepage http://www.gandlflycraft.com/Default.aspx?tabid=71 and click the link on the left entitled "Help us name our new Switch Rod Series". There's a survey/poll with a few suggestions to choose from, along with an email module for adding to the list.

FYI, these rods were designed and are crafted from the "ground up" for fishing Pacific Northwest waters, so if you're thinking along the name-of-a-world-class-river route as we've done with a few of our other series (i.e. Bow River Series, etc.), please keep that in mind.

I know we're probably opening a can of...(umm...what's the flyfishing equivalent for "worms"?) but we've really appreciated input from fellow fly anglers on all our rods thus far and trust you'll understand if your suggestion doesn't end up on the rods!

Anyway, thanks in advance, and feel free to drop us a line if you've got additional questions on the sticks!

    Warmly,
    John

Hi Dave! YES! Sorry for not getting back to you sooner...I just got back from a short break (we extended the formal "long weekend" up here in Canada) and am following up with everyone as quickly as possible...you'll see an email from me or our US manager shortly.

    John,
I've been waiting to try out your new switch rod since Chris announced it in March.

How about sending the prototype to Chris nameless so we can have at it? Oh well, worth a try. Hope you hit a home run with this one.

The 6wt Bow River is on the way. The 6/7 10'3" switch rod is coming soon. Alpine Trout has first use with the 6wt.

chris... i am not sure of the exact dates but the switch would be a great rod for me to use on our Atlantic salmon trip.... I think it is the middle two weeks of july but it may be a little earlier...
Cant wait to try it out.

John, what blank are you building the rod on?

Spey--these rods are our own design tweaked by Brian Niska of Whistler Fly Fishing, a veritable spey guru IMHO. I can tell you we collaborated on it with Dan Craft of Oregon because of his fantastic success with his FT series used in this context (a la Meiser, etc.), and are having him roll the blanks for us.

Thanks again, all! Just wanted to let you know we've added a few more options to the list on our site (see the link above). If you already "voted" I don't think you can submit another preference again, but just post your fav's here or email 'em to me.

    REALLY appreciate your help!

That man definately makes nice blanks. If it's anything like his FT series in terms of quality, it'll be one hell of a nice rod!
