I like the term. TO me 'Chumugly" souds like a sickening kind of ugly. So if she had major skin problems or problems with mucus....
I googled "chumugly" and found no references. The word may be open to definition. WFF's collective brain should be the first to define it.
I had been thinking about a term well-used in Australia, Kinugly, or Knugly. As in "wow, that (girl, boy) is fucKIN'UGLY" You may also see a derivative used in describing Canadians as Canugly (capitalized of course).
And as I was fishing an S river this weekend, there they were. Ugly chum. Half decayed, chumugly.
Here are some other ways I figured it could be used, (please add and pictures appreciated)...I'd like this to be a shining example of chumugly etymology, such that one day, as my lads sit to do the SAT, there it might appear as one of those ridiculous questions: "ugly" is to "displeasing" as "Chumugly" is to....
As an adjective:
Alcohol couldn't take it away, she/he was four-beer chumugly
Penelope Cruz is not Chumugly
As a synonym: Chihuly and his glass art might be described as....

Since Chums seem to start turning dark as soon as they smell the river they're gonna run up, Chumugly might best be applied to those who thoroughly show the effects of what they've been (or been dragged) through. Might also be described as heavily "Lifeworn" or kinda like some of the "minty" rods people have tried to sell me...

All morning the pouring rain, mixed with sleet and snow, had clawed it's way toward earth in horizontal, wind whipped, slashes.
Dead and dying vegitation swirled in angry currents, whole trees ripped from failing banks as the river, swollen far outside it's boundries, raged in muddy torrents toward the sea.
It was chumugly, and there would be no fishing this day!

Today 12/3/07 this came to pass, I am sorry to say, the rivers are indeed "Chumugly"!

Could be a new "Bootism" coming to Webster's. Brings to mind snarling, snaggly teeth. Dirty purple stripes sloppily painted over dusky-green, delaminating, fungal-garnished skin. All wrapped around a body hell-bent on reproducing before it rots completely.
"The fisherman was a chumugly old curmudgeon".
I like it.![]()
Yeah, a little closer to fugly but still different on it's own accord.
When you factor in the green/black color and the mold gonochumrea comes to mind. Or maybe "Hey! Go get some chumacyllin before that thing rotts off."![]()
I think this might be the vid Itchy put on a while back. The larvae feed on the tertiary chumococcus that Be Jofus G seems very familiar with.
Only a matter of time before some Chum-borne spongiform wasting disease like Kuru is described. One of you sick chumugly eaters will be complaining of headaches, joint pains, shaking of the limbs...
I knew a gal from Bremerton once. She was one Chumugly Bremalo!
I haven't heard that used in awhile... used to be back in the day we referred to them ....end of the night of drinking "honnies" as Mafugly and butfugly and if you awoke the next morning to find your arm around one ...you'd just a soon chew it off and leave it behind as a token of well "I can't believe I did that and survived". Been there done that and won't do it again...now as far as them chums - they are reminiscent of the "Chumugly" phrase.![]()
