    Lake Cushman

Has anyone ever fly fished Lake Cushman?

I have done the leaded trolling and the trolling with other gear before but was wondering how and where to fly fish it.

    Cheers

    RE: Lake Cushman

Cushman is a big lake with lots of waves from wind and boats.I fished it once and have no want to go back. Try Lower Cushman for some good fishing for trout and at times, though I myself have not had any luck for small mouth. For some fun on Lower Cushman take a small craft all the way from the launch ramp and head to the far end of the lake then upstream toward the dam. Fishing up there is not good but so pretty with many very small water falls and all.

Prices Lake is pobably a better bet for that area. At 60 acres is is much smaller. It holds rainbows, brook trout, and cutthroat. You will have to carry a tube, pontoon, or small boat about 50 yards or less. But the lake doesn't open until the end of April. It is however an catch-and-release and selective gear rules so there are quite a few fish in it, including some nice sized ones, and few people fish it.

To get there, go 1/2 mile past Lake Cushman State Park and turn right onto a dirt road to the parking area (take a left when the road forks). The lake is located just below the parking area.

I fished the upper end of the lake/inflow of NF Skok last summer. I caught a few small rainbows on small olive wolley worms. Maybe spring time is a better time, rather than mid-summer.

    RE: Lake Cushman

My in-laws have land on the opposite side of the lake from the former State Park, so I would be a little tough to get to Price from there, will fish it one of these days though.

Only reason why I asked about Cushman was because they had a builder up there doing some work and he mentioned fish rising in front of the dock, never thought of heading up to the inlet of the lake though.

Will probably only catching the same old 8-10 inch Kokanee anyways.
