Old rod question

I have an old rod that I inherited from my wife's grandpa and was wondering if any of you old rod enthusiasts might know something about it. On the rod it says Montague Colorado Special Holloglass. It has wierd guides that look more like they should be on a spinning rod, a cork handle that is between 10 and 12" inches long and a fly rod reel seat. I suspect it was an early glass rod. Anyone ever heard of it? Clunker or collector's item? Just curious.

Montague made inexpensive glass rods. If it has odd guides, are you sure it is a fly rod?? Often, spin/fly rods had a normal looking fly reel seat and then slidding bands for the spin reel, and an extra long handle. Anyway, if it perfect it is worth something, but not much, and also short glass rods are always worth more than longer (9ft) ones. Fishable?? I LOVE my glass rods, and cannot remember the last time I fished with a (gasp) black rod. So, how long is it??

Some of those inexpensive convertable rods had reversable handles. You could just pull the handle/reel seat unit back off the end of the butt and turn them around. Try that with your Montague - carefully.

I would say it's 6 and a half to 7 feet long. It does have the metal bands on the cork handle. The reel seat isn't detachable. I think you're right; it's a convertible. That would explain the wierd looking guides. Thanks for your insights.
