    Otto/Larry/Cady Lake update

Good morning. Yesterday, I was able to spend a few hours fishing at Cady Lake. I also spent about an hour visiting with Larry DePaul the owner of the property. Last year, members of WFFC participated in a very positive collaboration to purchase a puppy for Larry. I won't rehash all the details; if you weren't aware of the background you can go to this thread. http://www.washingtonflyfishing.com/...ght=puppy+fund

Otto is almost 90 pounds small. He's big but he still has a puppy look to him. The vet estimates he could get almost twice as big. Both of his ears point straight up now. Larry and Otto are family. They walk regularly, in fact Otto "captured" a brush picker on the property last week. He held on to the picker's arm and brought him back to Larry without harming him. Otto is energetic, curious, lively, smart, and clearly loved. Larry brushes Otto every night; apparently, except for sleeping, it's the only time Otto is still. Also, Otto has a rock collection--seriously. He picks rocks out of the lake and has made a stack of them. There are 30 or 40 rocks in the collection. Larry doesn't say to him, "Otto, go fetch a rock." Otto has just does it.

As to the WDFW, Larry hasn't heard from them for 4 months. In their last conversation, the WDFW said they would drop the suit against Larry if he would donate the access property to them. He told them it was his property and if they were so interested in controling the access they should build it on what he understands to be their property. They told him it was much to expensive to do that. He is in hopes that they are just going to ignore him now.

Again, thanks members for a positive effort that benefits Larry literally every day.

PS I caught a few fish all but one of which were on dry flies. After about 3 1/2 hours the wind came up so hard that not only did I get blown back to the launch I got blown 20 yards up the bank. What the heck, I didn't have to walk very far to the truck.

Thanks for the update MrP. Wow, Otto has gotten big! I can't imagine him getting twice that size. I am glad that Otto has filled a special place in Larry's world.

Good stuff, MrP. Thanks for the info.

Glad to see Otto has become a part of Larry's world. I sure hope he can work out this BS with the WDFW.

    Re: Otto/Larry/Cady Lake update

Thanks for posting the excellent picture and for the update. It's great to see that this has worked out for Larry and Otto, though Otto's big enough already that TWICE as much Otto will be a huge dog!

And has Larry lost weight? I only met him that one time, but the guy in the photo definitely looks like he's slimmed down. Just another benefit of having Otto around, I guess...

Thanks for the update. Glad you had some luck fishing also!
Whereas today a luddite would reject new technology because it is new, the (original) Luddites were acting from a sense of self-preservation rather than merely fear of change.
