    Eastern Oregon fishing

    Hello,

I am new to the Eastern Oregon area and am looking for some folks to go fishing with. I live in Milton Freewater, but am willing to drive to where the fish are. I've been fishing the south fork of the walla walla, but would like to check out some new water. Matt

Fish up in the national forest on any moving water you see. southeast toward the Wallowas, east on the Ronde, steelhead should be moving up soon (join the tri-state steelheaders), south toward sumpter, west to the Deschutes, John Day for smallies.

Born and raised in Umapine. Graduated from MAC HI.
We use to go to Thorn Hollow on the Umatilla River and go up the Umatilla until we got off Reservation Land. When I visit relatives I occassionally fish there. Its always been good fishing. Umatilla down stream from Pendleton holds small mouth.

Middle Fork of the John Day is fly fishing only. Long way to go but pretty up there.

Every summer we would hike into the Eagle Cap wilderness up the Lostine River and fish the high lakes. Lots of good brookie fishing.
The Wallowa River is good fishing.

ohwyee up near adrian. not sure how far that is from you, not familiar with the area, but its a sweet river set down in some huge canyons(although during the day they can act as a convection oven). but if you can withstand the heat, theres some very large brownies in there good luck

Going to Spokane or Yakima is closer than the Ohwyee River. Though its a great idea! Milton-Freewater is the "Oregon Suburb of Walla Walla, WA" Boy am I going to get it from my Fellow Mac Hi grads for that statement.
