Anyone know if Cap' Larry is @ Blue Lake?
The least time I heard from him he was planning to head up on 10/11 and stay through the end of the month. I left him a VM on his cell phone and tried to call the house but the number I have is wrong. I *think* he's up there but cannot confirm, and Blue does not have cell service.
If anyone has his home number, please PM it to me and I can check with Jeanne and make sure he's up there. I'm heading that way in a couple of days.

I can't confirm but a friend of mine told me Larry was planning on being there. I spent Oct. 5-9th camped there. When my brother would leave with his dog in the morning to hunt I swear I was the only human within 20 miles. I love the Sinlahekin. Fishing rocked too!

I saw him there setting up camp on the 13th. Said he plans to be there "til the end of the month."

Perfect, thanks for the info!

As of this last weekend he was still there.

Jeanne called me this morning--I'm all set, thanks guys. Wish me luck up there!!
Oh, are those fish worthy of human consumption, or are they just toys like the Lenice fishes??

Re: Anyone know if Cap' Larry is @ Blue Lake?
I caught some really nice fat bright rainbows when I was there but didn't keep any. They looked pretty tasty though. I remember trying to eat a fish from a pond near there once...that was huge mistake. Total mud fish.

My boyfriend is having a difficult time understanding the concept of "mud fish". Maybe I should encourage him to cook up one of the Blue fish to get the concept...

Re: Anyone know if Cap' Larry is @ Blue Lake?
The fish were fat and feisty that we caught. But from the smell of the mud on the shoreline at Blue (think of a muddy pasture outside of a beef processing plant in August), I think I would think twice before cooking one up - but that's just me.

I think my guy needs to learn what a muddy fish tastes like!

Okay - dumb question alert: Who is Cap' Larry?
Give a man a fish and he'll have a dinner...
Teach a man to fish and he'll be late for dinner.

Ex-pilot that loves to set up huge tents, fly fish, hunt, cook, eat, drink, and welcome total strangers over for happy hours...nicest guy you'll meet lakeside...

Re: Anyone know if Cap' Larry is @ Blue Lake?
I met Cap Larry at Lenice a few years ago. I had no idea what I was doing (still don't) and was not catching a darn thing. Ran into Cap' Larry at the little island. He saw I was struggling, came over and took a look at my fly box. He then proceeded to give me about a dozen flies and gave me some advice and left me to fish. Started catching fish a few minutes later.
Great guy.

Re: Anyone know if Cap' Larry is @ Blue Lake?
The fishing was not stellar, but we still had a great time. Lar took us up to Chopaka yesterday where we ran into a few of his friends, we all had lotsa laffs. Time in the Big Tent took the edge off the chilliness off and on over the weekend.
I'll save the story for the campfire sometime, but watch out for gomer hunters up in that area shooting in the immediate proximity of people and things. It's not a diss on hunters in general, just these boneheads!
As always, great to hang out and have a bit of "school" with Larry. Would not be the same without at least a couple of the Flying Furs (Tundra and Cadpig gave us lots of puppy kisses) and the mighty mighty Rajah, King Kat of All He Dominates.
