Re: What is a Fly Fishermans worst enemy?
I'm with Porter. For me, at least right now, it's kids, wife, work in that order.
I suppose I could be more thoughtful and mention gillnets, jet sleds, global warming, logging, and other problems, but I only notice those when I actually make it to the water, which for me hasn't been since October. F*%#.
It's called "fishing", not "catching".

I was thinking the sun.. inevitably popping out early a.m, killing the daylight mission streamer fishing.. Or when the last shreds of light drain away in the evening putting an end to the #18 Sulpher spinners. Worse yet, popping off your fly or needing to change out your drowned one or any leader issue/s with NICE fish going to town RIGHT ON TOP OF YOU.
After reading Lugans quote it's painfully obvious though.. Responsibility

And if we release it, we sometimes like to hold it, and take a snap shot.If fish could think, thats gotta piss them off. I mean we may like fish, but they sure wouldn't like us right? Does that make us the enemy? Sometimes you may hear a fisherman say "lets go kill some fish today".And as bold as that sounds, thats the idea right? Even for a catch and release senerio, were still out to get em right? So here's the question. If it's not the fish thats are enemy, then what or who is?

Complacency and Apathy!

As a confirmed gear whore, I firmly believe that one can never have too many rods, reels, lines, flies, boats and . . . what else was I gonna say?

Re: What is a Fly Fishermans worst enemy?
You know, my worst enemy would have to be work! As the saying goes, "I'd rather be fishing!" Other then that, mosquitos, those are my worst enemy. I can have fun whether it cold, windy, and rainy...or bright and sunny; even if I get skunked its still a great day....Trees and limbs tick me off, but I stay away from those. OH AND I LEARNED SOMETHING ELSE LAST YEAR THAT'S MY ENEMY....BUG SPRAY! it brittles and weakens your leader!!!! HAHAHA learned that the hard way dealing with mosquitos and losing my flys on every other back cast!!!!
 Keep'em tight!

Car thieves. I think about it every time I park at the Nunnally/Lenice parking lots, or anywhere else where I know there is a history of mayhem and broken glass on the ground

Work, hands down, but with out it I could not afford to fish.

Re: What is a Fly Fishermans worst enemy?
So, I have to preface my answer with a comment. I spent a week last August at the Stonefly Inn in Twin Bridges Montan fishing with Willauer and listening to Brazda's witty commentary drift softly over the water (ok maybe not softly). I booked dates for a return trip this August.
Just after Thanksgiving this year my wife and I learned that we are expecting a blessing; our third child. Soon after I figgured out that said third child is due the exact same day and hour (ok maybe not hour) that I was supposed to start drifting the Big Hole with one of Roosters great guys, sitting back for an after fishing scotch, eating the gormet food, shaky box, fishing again the next day in 80 to 90 degree temps ....
I am not going anywhere now.
So, you tell me, Long term blessing... but I may cry tears of joy and anguish on August 8.
Believe me. I love being a dad more than I love fishing, .... but August, in Montana, Hopper fishing, with my best friends ... I am sure somebody out there understands.
"Often I have been exhausted on trout streams, uncomfortable, wet, cold, briar scarred, sunburned, mosquito bitten, but never, with a fly rod in my hand have I been less than in a place that was less than beautiful." Charles Kuralt
