E WA next Thursday for a week of fishing. Never have fished Omak Lake before so we are thinking of giving it a try. Can you give me an idea of what part of the lake to fish and any go to fly patterns. Thanks in advance any info.

For Grayling, go up the west side of Hungry Horse Reservoir all the way to Handkerchief Lake. State record out of there, easy access (by mostly gravel and dirt) and lonely. greaty fishing for grayling and cutts.

Yes the Met is great if you can beet the cowds I had a client on my boat wed go 7 for 11 on bobber jig and spoon, I fished with him for just a couple holes and went 3 for 3 on my streamer set up. Could see fish swimming under and around us, ya our first fish came in 15 minutes and there wasn't 30 minutes between fish. We should go mid week week after next when I'm off.

My favorite time of year!!! The fish are getting aggresive as the temps drop. Ran over to Omak lake to check it out yesterday. Still pretty slow, managed to pick up two eighteen inchers wading the shallows. Pulled stakes and hit some Rufus wading flats on the way home. Landed two 25 inch bows, and one that taped exactly 27 inches. I'm casting unweighted streamers into two feet of water and start stripping fast. When a fish gives chase it looks like a bowling ball plowing through the water inches behind your fly. The most exciting form of flyfishing in my book.

The caddis madness is slowly dying down. The fishing has been insane the last month or so, but now they are getting picky. The flies are smaller the last week, and there are so many naturals on the water.

Rufus is good right now. I have a major work project underway, so finding time to fish is much harder than catching fish. I haven't even had to break out my sink tip this winter yet. I've been doing fine in shallow water with floating line. Long stretches of deep-freeze can drive the fish into deeper water anytime, but most commonly around early January.

We should definitely go fishing sometime, I had allot of time to fish when i wasn't working, now that I have a real job i maybe get out every other week. I will let you know next time im heading to the CDA or the spokane. Ive got a few small spots that hold some browns that I'm probably going to pursue the next month or so as well. I will pm you.

Plus don't forget you can get browns on Rufus(the pic on the left is a small Rufus brown) in the fall.

I fish for natives from the "can line" to Seaton's Grove. It's great from shore spring-fall. The natives stack up in the frog-water near shore, and are responsive to dry flies. My biggest native is an eight-pound male. The plus of this stretch is the down-river trail(a maintained bike/walking trail that allows you to walk until you find risers). The downside is this is all rip-rap shorline, so be prepared for boulder hopping.
From Seaton's Grove down you start seeing the triploids. I do really well wading around the Coyote creek boat launch. Two years ago, I caught around two dozen fish in a little over two hours, the biggest being six#s. The very next day, my first cast caught one 11#s. I switched over to a blood-worm. My strike indicator didn't even twitch, I just didn't think it was riding the current right. I set and found a 14#er.(Two double digit trout in two casts) A whole new world. Now I can catch big fish consistently, though I don't prefer indicator fishing.

Sounds real good, what area are you fishing? Saw your report on Omak too, I've never fished it but know several that really like it. They used to fish Lenore but Lenore has really gone down hill last couple of years.

Rufus is really picking up with this cool weather we've been having. I've been picking up alot of natives on dries, and some decent trips with streamers. All stomach samples on the trips show nothing but crawdads, big ones. The natives, some crawdads, chrinomids, and half-digested adult flies. The fall feeding frenzy is just starting....
