But in starting spey fishing it has come to my attention now that all my friends and family are gear fisherman who think this new thing I'm doing is stupid.
I'm not an expert, I can cast seemingly fine. I had a tremendous day dolly fishing last weekend that I will never forget....anyone want to split some gas and get out??
When one comes out of the closet as a member of Spey Pride, acceptance by traditional gear family and friends often proves complicated. Time heals most wounds. Good luck.
That's lame, snubbing you on the invites. But if you find yourself on this side of the state, I'd be glad to fish with you Grande Ronde, Clearwater, yadda, yadda, yadda.
I still have a nice spinning set up for tossing spoons/spinners when I go fish with gear chucking friends, if only for the fact that we can stand close and BS while we fish, and are often covering different water.
Its nice to have that versatility. Plus, swinging spoons is a great way to learn to swing a fly.
