Christmas fly was mailed out this morning.
Chris, Thanks for the heads up, Buddy. I'll be looking. Anyone else out there gonna take a shot at this? There's $111 dollars worth of hackle just waiting for you to tie up a Christmas Fly for the contest.
I'm working on mine, think its beginning to look like a "do over" though.
btw, finally got around to looking at the wet flys from last month, really nice stuff!
I have intentions of tying it, but haven't been able to find the time with the move. I should get to it next week.
All right, Guys. Lets git 'r done.
I'll be sending one in, have the design complete and now just need to tie it up.
I plan on sending one eventually, but this is hard! Did you all the latest issue of American Angler and the ties by Scott Sanchez???? Nice Santa fly.
Missed that one Wayne, but I did get a nice fly from Anyfish this afternoon. Looks like this is going to heat up a little. Lots of entries.
I got that Issue, and especially liked the Santa fly.
There's one thing I need to pick up at the the fly store before I tie up my pattern, then I will get it off before the week is over.
I sent the Christmas fly out today. This one my daughter tied. It is a pattern that Backyard showed her and she modified it with different materials and "super sized it" to the appropriate proportions to match the #3 Alex Jackson hook.
She is also working on the January flies. It is supposed to be a productive pattern in the salt or fresh water, but you will have to wait to see what it is.
By the way, nice flies everyone. Mine came a little late this time around.
You need to tip your postal workers a little (with money, not tip them over) to speed up the process. A couple guys here get their flies very fast.
I'm gonna be off line for a day. Time for a little puter tune up and maintainence. Plus I'm going broadband instead of dial-up. Tired of the ssssslllllooooowwwww hookups.
See Y'all in the AM.
Dang, puter tune up didn't take that long and hellllooooo broadband. I like this.
Sweet Ron! Move'n on up in the world. I'll be tying my fly tonight, so if my vision is carried out onto the hook well I should be mailing that sucker out tomorrow.
A nicely tied fly arrived this afternoon from Tom Grobelny's tag team partner. I wish my flies looked that good.
What's tied will soon be in the mail
It was an interesting experiment, I'll say that much!
Mine's in the mail as of now!
Yes, I'm thinking that it's going to take mad tying skillz to win this one.
This would be smack talk, except for the obvious high quality of the ties so far.
Plus, I looked at the flies from last year and they looked pretty good too.
So no smack talk from me ... but I like my tie!
Also for Ron: ... I didn't toe tag it because I wanted get it out on time and I was pretty sure they'd be judged without toe tags. I can PM you the ingredients, but they're all fly shop standards and a toe tag wouldn't really help anybody re-create it any way. I may do a quick write-up on how I tied it, where "quick" means "short" as opposed to "appearing in the near future."
If you want the recipe, PM me and I'll get it out.
Last year was the first time I ran this swap and contest. The flies for the contest just blew me away. I have come to believe that fly tiers are their own worst critics and underrate their tying abilities tremendously.
When the pics of the flies go up in the gallery I'm sure everyone would like to see your tying instructions.
And, yes, it is an interesting experience isn't it?
I dropped mine off at the P.O. at 7:00 this morning Ron, so I would guess it will arrive at your box on Saturday.
I'm anxious to see the others!
Thanks Desmond, I'll be keeping an eye peeled for it.
