That had to be one of my favorite rods for a heck of a long time. Full progressive action on it. Loaded well into the cork, allowing the caster to feel the rod load, and slow down the stroke as a result. It rocks with an Airflo Delta spey and would make an awesome Skagit rod for sure.

A Great rod for someone at a VERY good price. If there is someone out there waiting to get into spey casting without breaking the bank you would be very hard pressed to beat this little beauty.....I still miss mine.

    Cheers

Connor...you could easily get a good used Airflo Delta Spey or other brand for that rod for around the $35-40 mark...or as high as $150 for a brand new tips line.

    So Connor.....did you buy it.

I have used this very rod for some very large rainbows here in BC. And for a light summer run steelhead rod is makes a great little stick.

Hey Paul, Actually I jumped on this rod and I am really excited to start learning to spey cast with it! I am just to the south of you down here in Spokane, WA. This will be a starter rod for me that I intend to use to fish for steelhead here on the dry side. Actually, I have a list of questions I would love to ask you if you don't mind me sending along a PM... just curious about reels and lines, etc.

Thanks again Speydude, check is in the mail!

Paul, continuing in your tradition of helping out the newbies, I thank you for the number of times you have given me very good advice. Jerry, nice score on the rod, best of luck with it.

Fire away Jerry with the PM's......

The line that really rocked that little sweetheart of a rod was the Delta Spey by Airflo. Don't get the Delta long...its too much for that rod.

    Jerry,

Good luck with the rod. As I mentioned on the phone, I put the AFS 400 grain on it and it felt pretty good, way better than the Windcutter, but I think if I still owned the rod I might try 425 or 450 or even up to 500 grains to see how it felt. With these spey rods you really have to experiment with lines and line weights to see what is going to work the best for each particular rod and the casters casting style and ability. So, don't be afraid to try different lines. Hopefully, some others can chime in so we can all help you try to get the thing dialed in. But in the end it will be your call on what feels the best for you.

I am thinkin' I will wait until I get about 300 bucks and get a deer creek spey. I want a lighter rod, maybe 6\7 weight for summer runs and saltwater use. Thanks alot, I will see you on the water someday!

The TFO Deer Creek rod is a great rod...you will love it. A buddy of mine has the 7/8 and we overlined it one complete line weight. It now rocks with an Airflo Delta 8/9.

You will like that rod very much.

    Connor,

I have the Deer Creek 5/6 and got it dialed in a few months ago on the Deschutes. Let me know when you get it and I'll point you in the right direction pal...

I just realized you are in Moses Lake. I have a summer place on Potholes....we should hook up sometime.
