I've put my name on the list. I'm hopping we end up with some say in how this is done, and not just be able read about what they said to us just before the screw us again.

I support this petition, with one caveat, that I don't think that the public should be allowed to comment or interrupt these comanagement meetings. We should be able to observe or record the proceedings though.

I would be relatively certain that there is someone making a written transcript of the meetings even if you can only listen to the audio. There is something called "The Freedom of Information Act" that could be used to get the transcripts, legally. I'm not sure how it's done but a person should be able to google the act and get the process. It takes time, of course, with bureaucrats, but it could be done.

To extrapolate on this, wouldn't it be prudent to have pre-NOF meetings or comment period for the representatives hear public input before they represent?

The meetings have been going on for months already. They are just not formal or announced to the public. The director of the WDFW has been meeting with the Puyallup and Nisqually tribes since November. This could be a good thing or a bad thing. I guess we will see in April.

i believe that WDFW does not want anyone to know that the tribes come in, dicate what they want, and WDFW rolls over and plays dead. good doggie....

i simply refuse to give them anymore of my dollars by buying a WA fishing license. i am travelling to fish, once again, and having fun doing so. BC is right around the corner, great exchange rate and best of all, they have fish!!!!!

Isn't that why we already have public comment periods, and opportunities to address the WDFW commissioners? I am under the impression that the WDFW represents us at the NOF meetings. And that representation would necessarily include some of our previous input, as to season setting, etc., with the Commisioners.

We certainly have opportunites for public comments on matters such as this.
Whether and how those comments, suggestions or ideas are being conveyed or acted on during the season setting process is the question.
How would we know how well WDFW is negotiating on our behalf if the meetings are closed to the public?
Should I really have to file a Publics Records Request or whatever it is called to have to learn how WDFW is negotiating on my and your behalf?

It seems to me WDFW is at an all time low when it comes to public perception of them.
Shining some light on what really goes on behind these closed door meetings seems like a step in the right direction. In my opinion, the more transperancy in this process the better if they hope to win back anglers trust.

If you don't agree with the petition, don't sign it. If you do, thanks for the support.

Start cutting some cushy paying figureheads jobs, replace with a motivated/skeleton crew with better ideas other than raising the license fees while bowing out when it is time to play hardball with all involved.
