If I'm behind on this so bear with me. Has this
been signed by Her Highness? Can I purchase
an unlimited pass for $50? My copier has run out
of colored ink so I'll have to spend monies
for the stinking pass tax instead of...you know.

Jesse, I would agree with your quote if we hadn't had free use of
the lands and parks for over a hundred years. Now we have to pay...
for Miss Management (The States Hydroplane at Seafair). I'll buy one and give it to all my buds to use when I'm not.

It was when this was first proposed that I said it would get less
    than half of dollars projected.

    I'll say the same again.

Projections are better when drinking... as shown
    by the people in Olytown.

    And so...
The new Washington? Pay to access land that you own and have traditionally accessed for free by a State Government that is broke.

The new Monatana? Locked out of land you have always accessed by virtue of tradition by Bazzillionarre landowners form Cali who want to feel like they live in a Sundance catalogue.

Either way, looks like we are sliding away from the USA we once new ...

Basically, making people pay to access lands (starting with the State more or less) is going to "open the eyes" to private land owners who now currently may allow people to fish on their land for free. They're going to start thinking that it's "their turn to make a few bucks", then you are going to be paying for more of these private access places you used to fish, or not fish at all there. That's just how things seem to go.

Yeah, Jesse, I'm bitching about the Pass because I've been retired for basically 10 years. When I bought my Dodge diesel truck in 2002 as sort of a retirement gift to myself, diesel was around $1.50 (I think) a gallon--it's now $4.59. My taxes on my house and property went up this year an additional $750 a year for a total of $4400 (divide that by 12 months and figure out your montly payment-Good thing the place is up for sale). Shall I continue to tell you about my health insurance that probably has gone up $40+ per month each year since retirement? Maybe I should go on about the cost of a loaf of bread?! Fishing licenses have skyrocketed in Oregon and Idaho at bascially $100 per season. Yeah, I suppose it's a good deal, but it's getting a little tough when you have been on a "fixed" income for 10 years. I can't afford to go out and have a 6-pack at the local Pub and fork out $30. Basically, we might as well consider the Discover Pass and Fishing License as one that costs us $84 per year, not including the options to purchase other endorsements of course (kinda like buying a stinking car with options....). I think the younger generation tends to accept this crap more easily than us older folks, and frankly, I think it's dangerous. There are a lot of folks out there that get credit cards without thinking and don't think about paying 20%+ on their credit cards. When you get old like I am starting to be, you will understand, so, until then, don't be afraid to bitch at the politicians. You have to. Did I just post this? Geesus. Tight Lines!

Already old news... When I was a kid around here (E WA) in the 70s you could knock on a door and ask to hunt pheasants and generally, permission was granted after a short conversation.... We had planty of hunting all season. In the the 80/90s these same farmers discovered that that people from big cities would pay a pretty penny to hunt their land. Soon there after, it was hard to find private lands to hunt that were not leased by folks who could pay big $$. I don't blame the land owners... It is just the way of the world.

Larry I am old and retired too. My income is fixed and I too remember back in the day.........It is all in what your priorities are I buy a Montana, Idaho and Washington licence and any other punch cards and passes needed. Guess what it doesn't even add up to the cost of a day of at the local golf resort.
Go fish if you are going to continue to brazenly break the law and then brag about it, what goes around will come around.... I hope the fishing karma gods will keep you from catching any fish this year...

Jesse, the idea that I would make fake
Discover Passes is one that I started.

You have no idea whether I do or don't which is
    the point of my posts.

I'm just trying to protest the idea that
it is OK to pay for things that use to be free.

Your pass is in the mail.

I'm glad I studied history in college, the concept of the good old days is truly a rediculous one. I'm also glad that I've studied brain research and how we tend to compartmentalize things in our minds as we grow older, thus the reason so many people become so cynical. You have always paid for access, it has never been free, plain and simple. Now our "taxes" are lower because a majority of Washingtoninans decided to focus on the short term save (yea now I don't have to pay more for my candy and my car is cheaper to drive!) regardless of the long term and for that matter immediate impact on our society. Some of that same majority also voted to cripple the states ability to generate income in other ways and now when the state attempts to overcome this I'm guessing that a majority of this same majority are the ones complaining about paying for something that they didn't use to have to pay for. Causuality people, causuality.

By the way, I just happily slapped down $86 (+$10 because I forgot to send in my crab catch record card) for my new fishing liscense. When my Discover Pass is up in December, I will also happily repay for that. I can see that many on the forum were not fans of Kennedy and have now fallen into the trap of entitlement that so many of our youth have. "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."

Gregoire and her band of umpa-loompa's get press and praise for revising the ding-dong bill to what it should have been in the first place... priceless.

Yes, things used to be free. I can remember when we would camp at Gold Basin on the S/F Stilly. You had to get there early so you could get the choice spots. And it was free camping. only thing the Forest Service provided was the water. You brought everything else with you.

So what is you total bill now for having fun. You need a fishing license, Fresh and Salt water, Discover Pass, a license for your camper every year, I must have missed several other fees. Since I don't live there I don't know what all you need.

Isn't it fun paying for all that. Then when you go you have to pay through the nose for gas to get where you are going.

It sure is fun having to enjoy living there.

    I just can't help myself.

I was looking for some kind of figures. I just would like to know how much it will cost somebody if they went all the way to enjoy themselves in Washington State.

Here my cost is 8 bucks a year. I think you have to pay extra for Warm water fish. But I don't fish for them kinds of fish.

Things have never been free we just pay for them differently.

Jim can afford to be subtle, blatant, or any adjective of your choosing. He's where we'd ALL like to be (unless, of course, you have salt in your blood/on your reel or "hot" Steel as a passion . . . just circumventing any vicious commentary here folks.). I'm just a gentle-spirited East-Side guy . . .
