5 wt for pinks?

    My granddad, a wise fellow who did most of his trout fishing with a beatiful cane Heddon Black Beauty, used to say, "In the Pacific Northwest we tend to underdress the weather and overfish our tackle."
    I'm all in favor of fishing a 5-weight for trout, even juvenile coho in the winter. However, Lefty Kreh was presiding over a lunch table at a Denver trade show where I was fortunate enough to be seated at and said, "It is always a mistake to use a 9-weight rod when you are fishing for 12-weight fish." In my view Lefty's wisdom really applies to all fish/rod situations. being discussed here.
