What should their name be?

I'm thinking the Seattle Metropolitins because that was the 1917 Stanley cup winner (over the Habs!)

I'm not sure that's realistic though

How about the Seattle Sasquatches ?

seattle sockeyes? seattle steelhead? sculpins? squawfish? suckers? that's it, they'd have to be suckers to fall for seattle as an nhl city in the modern era. i'd kill for an nhl team but it won't happen and if it does it won't work. can't go back to winnipeg now though.

that old logo is awesome. that was only the first or second cup, right? pre-nhl.

They should take the old WHL team name the Totems back - If we get an arena, I will bet you that we get both the NHL and NBA, it would be nice for the city to have that dual income over the winter. We would fit in the NHL's western Div very well and be able to slide back in with the NBA. I think there is support in this area for hockey and while I'm no fan of the NBA - we have a very rich history in basketball.

I hope we get both back someday - the area deal didn't look too bad this area has the private money to support both teams

Hey, maybe Seattle could get Howard Shultz to help out with the NHL team. It could be like a childhood dream of his.

i just don't think this market is large enough or interested in enough in hockey to support hockey along with basketball because they have concurrent seasons and playoffs. i really don't think hockey would work on it's own either. but having both forces them into competition with each other and this just isn't a big enough town with enough interest in hockey to begin with for that.

Kerry, Schultz built a rink in Santa Rosa, CA just so he could have hockey! They formed a league we all called the "Snoopy League": the minimum age was 75!!! My team played them twice back in the late `90's, and had our heads handed to us both times, These old guys aren't fast at all, but their moves usually left our pants down around our ankles! I tended goal back then. When we moved here, I tried to get back into it, but the arch damage and resultant ankle collapse made that impossible, so I sold all my pads and bought a switch rod!

heh heh heh heh... You funny man. Your wading staff bent at the end? Wear your mask while fishing? on the bus? Bet you get your own seat.
Sorry for the diversion.

I thought that when the Subsonics left Seattle for greener pastures that they were supposed to get another NBA franchise in a few years. I guess that never happened.

You probably know this, but....different Schultz than the one Kerry was referencing. At any rate, I played at that arena in Santa Rosa too! I went to high school in SR so that brings back memories.

You ever been to a thunderbirds game? I used to love going to those games when they were in the Key Arena - those kids are vicious.

I think hockey would do just fine here in Seattle. I wish they would just demolish and renovate key arena though.

Too bad we have probably the most inept city government in the world.
