The best little dry fly that i have ever fished

#18
I was going through my trout flies this morning and came across this one which reminded me of the Renegade. I call it a Tri-visible but am sure it probably has another name. An effective pattern. IMG_0397.JPG

i would say one of 2 things. a caddipiller imitation or a emerger.
Beachmen,
I visited a friend at a fly shop yesterday and while looking through a fly suppliers book came across the fly I had been calling a "Tri-visible".
In fact, it is a "Renegade Double". So, now I know the "official" name of the fly I've been using for many years.

The second fly in the original post, which has the elk/deer hair wing behind the front hackle, looks a lot like the older versions of the "JH Special" that can be seen in the thread under that name. Good example of the evolution of a pattern.

Renegade is my go-to Cuttie pattern, but for an "all-arounder," it would have to be an unimposing "Gray" that I started tying for Browns on a local creek when I was a kid. Grizzly tail, gray body, Grizzly-tip wings & Grizzly hackle. Served me well in many other places, also . . . kind of a "one-size-fits-all" thing.

there is a lot f those one size fits all when it comes to tieing flies that catch fish. even for y streamers the main base of them is wooly buggers in a few different styles and a nother pattern a friend gave me to rights to for commercial tying the Bob Wood Hairy Carry its a minnow pattern and on my facebook page with a vid on you tube for how to tie it. its te best little minnow pattern for fishign the rivers around here in the summer. all the little salmon fry with rainbows and SRC sitting in the rivers macking out. A friend, my dad and i went out to the hood canal rivers and in one day had 9 fish over 15in all on the hair carry. out of the rivers.

I have a friend who fishes exclusively with a Double Renegade for trout. He fishes them wet and dry and he catches a lot of fish.
