I hope to be! After last season ended I made a serious effort to tie all the salmon flies I would need ahead of time.

I tied a ton but am starting to do another handful each evening. I hope to be completly set for the season.
    Anyone else tying in anticipation?

Anyone have a better suggestion for storing big stinger hooked salt flies? The box on the right is from last season. I had to throw out an awful lot of rusty flies. No matter what I cant keep salt from getting to the other flies. I think this season when I hit the beach ill just bring a small handful of flies with me and leave the rest behind.

    I cant wait!

Guess that would be the box on top, not the right. Stupid phone.

Dang Nick - no wonder you don't have time to tie ling flies.:) Now you've got me thinking about tying up more salmon flies.

When I go to Alaska (which is not very often) I tie pretty much the same pattern, but only one color combination. Makes tying way easier, but boring...

Do you tie all similar sizes or is there a fair amount of variation in there? That's quite the inspiration to get going for the summer. Would you mind saying a little bit about your materials?

John, with these flies the only thing I really change is the overall length, and I do try to vary it up some, but it seems most come out in two general sizes. I catch an awful lot of 14" fish on 4" or longer flies so im not sure how much difference it makes.

I use Mustad 34007DT hooks to tie on, in size two. Been using 30 lb fire wire for the stinger material, and size 1 Gami octopus barbless hooks.

I like Spirit River eyes. Bucktail for the main body with DNA Holo Chromosome Flash over the belly with krystal flash over the back.

I also wrap a body of flat diamond braid.

My recipe is the exact copy of many more experienced beach goers on here

In my one and only trip to Kodiak I could have fished the entire week with one fly. Well not really one single fly, but many of the same one type of fly! They certainly weren't too selective. I tied all the flies for three of us, and ended up with like 24 dozen or something. I spent an entire winter prepping for the trip and came home with most of them untouched. I enjoyed getting ready though, with all the eager anticipation. Might be why seeing the pile of Nicks flies got me fired up. I understand how fun the preparation can be.

Haha Yeah, I noticed that after I posted the pics. I have another box that I keep a handful of tube flies, poppers and other random things. That was just a refugee in the Clouser box.

Though to be honest, I have yet to find any need to switch anything other than a different color Clouser, so I often wonder why I bother carrying the other stuff.

Whoa, you seem to be abundantly stocked, Nick! Makes me feel like a slacker 'cuz I haven't even thought of tying for summer silvers yet. I did manage to get some chum fry patterns cranked out this afternoon though. Was wanting to get out in the next day or two but the forecast doesn't seem too promising what with another front predicted to come in tonight/tomorrow with heavy rain and wind to 25 knots. Talked to the fishin' partner and we might try to hit the Canal on Friday.

Damn Nick, all stocked up! That's more Clousers than I go through in a whole season. I just change the hook when it gets rusty or damaged. Looks like a killer supply!

That's what I'm talking about! I can't freaking wait, I need to find time for the vise soon. I'm getting further and further behind for this season, thanks for the motivation Nick!

I got the 6"x3" as a gift, but have never used it. Pretty well built, but I have too many "containers" as it is. They are nice though.

Nick you always seem to be in the Silvers, you have any thoughts on UV materials?
